If London represents a fast-paced lifestyle, Brighton is its complete opposite. In this seaside city—just an hour’s train ride from London—time seems to stretch out, carried along by the sea breeze. During my few days in Brighton, I didn’t rush to tick off tourist attractions; instead, I chose to experience the city through five hotels, each with a distinct style. From seaside luxury to artsy boutique vibes, and from historic conversions to modern design, every night felt like an extension of Brighton’s unique character.
1.The Grand Brighton: A Classic Seaside Opening
For my first night in Brighton, I chose to stay at one of the city’s most iconic seafront hotels: The Grand Brighton.
Standing proudly along the promenade, this Victorian-style building features a striking white façade that gleams in the sunlight; from a distance, it resembles a massive ocean liner moored at the shore. Stepping into the lobby, I was immediately struck by a rich sense of history—soaring ceilings, ornate chandeliers, and vintage carpets all exuded traditional British elegance.
My room faced the English Channel directly.
As I pulled back the curtains, the sea breeze greeted me instantly, revealing an endless expanse of water and waves lapping against the pebble beach. In that moment, I didn’t even want to sit down; I simply stood by the window, gazing out for a long time.
At dusk, I dined at the hotel restaurant, ordering a seafood platter and a glass of white wine. Outside, the seascape gradually deepened into twilight, while inside, the lighting was soft and the sound of the waves drifted in faintly. That night, I drifted off to sleep to the soothing sounds of the sea.
2.Malmaison Brighton: Modern Industrial Style by the Marina
For my second night, I moved to Malmaison Brighton, located near the Brighton Marina.
Unlike the classical style of The Grand, this hotel leans decidedly towards a modern industrial aesthetic. Dark tones, metallic accents, and understated lighting give the space a stylish yet slightly mysterious atmosphere.
My room wasn’t large, but the design was exquisitely refined. What I loved most was the view outside the window—the pier and coastline were right there. At dusk, the entire sea was bathed in an orange-gold glow, and the amusement park lights began to twinkle, infusing the scene with vibrant energy.
In the evening, I ordered a cocktail at the hotel bar and sat by the window, watching the pier’s nightlife unfold. The distant sounds of fairground music and the laughter of crowds mingled with the rhythm of the waves, creating a unique “Brighton vibe.”
That night, Brighton felt lively, youthful, and pleasantly tipsy.
3.Artist Residence Brighton: Stepping into an Artist’s World

For my third night, I chose the distinctive Artist Residence Brighton.
It is a boutique hotel brimming with creativity, where every floor and room features a unique artistic theme. Upon entering my room, I was immediately captivated by the hand-painted wall art and vintage furniture.
The room didn’t feel like a standard hotel room; it resembled an artist’s studio. With its eclectic furniture, vintage lighting, and handcrafted decor, every detail exuded a sense of effortless creativity.
The communal areas were my favorite part.
The downstairs bar was full of character, with walls adorned in artwork and a seating area that felt both casual and cozy.
I spent the evening there enjoying a local beer and chatting with travelers from around the world. Some had come to Brighton for the music, others for the seaside lifestyle, and some simply to unwind and clear their minds.
The atmosphere made me feel as though the hotel itself was an integral part of Brighton’s artistic culture.
4.Hotel du Vin Brighton: Elegant Living in a Historic Building
On my fourth night, I stayed at Hotel du Vin Brighton, located just a short distance from the seafront.
Housed in a converted historic building, the hotel’s style was more understated and refined than the previous ones, yet every detail was meticulously curated.
Stepping into the room, I immediately noticed the heavy wooden doors, plush bedding, and warm lighting; the entire space offered a sense of quiet comfort.
The hotel restaurant was the highlight of the evening.
I ordered the roasted cod with butter sauce; the fish was incredibly tender—it practically melted in my mouth. Paired with a glass of white wine, the flavors were beautifully layered and distinct.
As I dined, I sat by the window, watching the crowds and lights moving slowly outside. At this moment, Brighton feels mature, quiet, and imbued with a touch of French elegance.
5.Drakes Hotel Brighton: A Quiet, Boutique Finale by the Sea
For my final night, I chose Drakes Hotel Brighton—a small yet stylish boutique hotel with exceptional design.
Located near the seafront promenade, the hotel has an understated exterior, while the interior spaces are modern and thoughtfully detailed.
My room offered a view of the sea.
Waking up in the morning, the first thing I saw was the grey-blue expanse of the ocean, where the sky and water seemed to merge into one.
The room featured a soft color palette and an incredibly comfortable bed—it was the kind of place you’d never want to leave.

I enjoyed breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
I ordered the classic English breakfast, though the presentation here was a bit more refined. The fried eggs, bacon, mushrooms, and roasted tomatoes were perfectly balanced; paired with a hot cup of coffee, the meal instantly revitalized me.
After breakfast, I took a short walk by the seaside.
The waves lapped gently against the shore, and the city had not yet fully stirred to life.
That night at Drakes provided a peaceful conclusion to my trip to Brighton.
Memories Carried on the Sea Breeze
On the day I left Brighton, I returned to the seafront once more.
The sea breeze remained gentle, and the waves continued their rhythmic lapping against the coast.
Reflecting on the hotels where I had stayed, each one seemed to embody a different facet of Brighton’s character.
There was liveliness and quietude, art and classic charm, and the pure serenity of the seaside.
For me, this trip was about more than just gazing at the ocean; through these varied accommodation experiences, I truly immersed myself in the city’s rhythm of life.
Brighton doesn’t overwhelm you with grand historical spectacles; instead, it lingers in your memory through a gentle, free-spirited atmosphere—one that carries the very scent of the sea breeze.
